Thoreau Outing: more than a field trip
The seniors blew away the judges with their elaborate show on Seasons Day, but the competition was close until then thanks to all the classes' creative ideas.
On Monday, October 3rd, the junior class enjoyed a day of fun while they canoed down the Delaware and Raritan Canal in Griggstown, NJ. “Through canoeing, we learned eacli other’s strengths and weaknesses, which helped us learn how to communicate better and in this way become a more united class,” Dan Moran T3 said. The canoe trip was educational as well. After canoeing, the juniors discussed how this experience compared to the ideas of Henry David Thoreau, whose work they had been studying in English class. “Through this trip, our class really got to understand Thoreau’s outlook on nature and how it inspired his writing,” Ankoor Patel ’13 said. The juniors really enjoyed the Thoreau trip and made many unforgettable memories.
