2 LOCAL Minister Arthur Dowers along with the Police Force present
Aruba’s NEW
DRIVERS LICENSE
NOW that the new equipment has arrived Aruba
is ready to process and print our own drivers’
licenses again.
“The system has already been tested and
everything works perfectly.” Minister Arthur
Dowers along with Deputy Irma Gordon and
Inspector Ricardo Muller announced this on
Monday morning. Minister Dowers thanks all
citizens for their patience and explained that
the new drivers license will be registered in the
2016 international catalogue along with the
already existent drivers license that was made
in Holland, so Aruba will have a two valid pink
drivers licenses. The international catalogue is
used around the world and has all legal drivers’
licenses for every country registered in it.
Deputy Irma Gordon mentioned that the white
drivers licenses that were given a few months
ago because it is still valid in Aruba and that if
someone is travelling and wants to rent a car
abroad they can request an international drivers
license at the Drivers License Department to be
sure that they can rent and drive a car abroad
without encountering any problems.
Deputy Gordon explained that the first set of
drivers’ licenses will be given to the people that
are currently waiting on their licenses and that
have been given a temporary copy to carry until
they arrive.
This group consists of about 2000 people. The
licenses will be given out after August 15 and the
Police Force will make an announcement about
this when the time comes.
The other group will receive their new licenses
when the new equipments is completely installed
which will be after August 15. The other group
consists of those that have just passed their
drivers test and those that need to renew their
license.
Minister Dowers explained that the white drivers
licenses have not been registered in the check-in
guide therefore it cannot be used outside of Aruba.
The decision to not register these licenses was
taken to avoid Aruba from having 3 registered
licenses in such a short period of time and there is
no sense in registering the white licenses because
the catalogue comes out once a year and the new
licenses were already under way.
