True Freedom
ORANJESTAD - In the eastern terms we call this liberation and in the west we may call it salvation.
Salvation or liberation from what? This is why most spiritual seekers go on this inner journey, to
discover this within oneself. Freedom from the inner voice, inner noise which is nonstop, one after
another thought, stream of thought that seem to have no end. Being free from this state of suffering
is what we all seek for, which is available to all of us. Firstly, we need to recognize this madness
within us, thus starts the process of liberating ourselves from this grip that the mind has on us.
Meditation is essential for inner observation, seeing within our reactivity to every thought, noticing
our identification to these thoughts that arise. We have a choice whether to identify to them or
not. A person who is in a total grip of thought and is unaware of it is totally imprisoned by the mind.
One tends to be in a state of unhappiness when in the grip of their thought stream, one suffers and
one shares the unhappiness with anyone they interact with thus making living quite unpleasant.
Ignorance is what this state is, ignoring their true nature and acting out the mind, acting out the
thoughts.
Being free from the shackles of this state is where we find true happiness, true peace of mind. And
this is achievable and this is the good news.
You can truly enjoy your life, without the frustration or unpleasantness of unnecessary thoughts. So
we can find out within ourselves whether we drift away to thought, usually is past or future, noticing
this brings us to this present moment where thoughts don’t seem to have power over us.
Underneath all the mental movement is a vast space of silence, this vastness is you in essence.q
Suresh Mirchumal is a spiritual writer. “Well, you can categorize it like that, although I don’t call
myself one. These thoughts come in effortlessly.” His aim is in a way to reach out to whoever
gets inspired or has an eye opening event within them that may transcend their current state
of consciousness. “Or let’s say current emotional state too. If one in a thousand benefits, that
is already great.” Due to the current world state, lots of struggles and stresses, we seem to
lose touch with that inner peace that we long for, Suresh explains. “I wish to ease that through
these small articles or tidbits.” You will find his tidbits in Aruba Today from now on, mostly on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
