Mark
Originally from Louisiana, but now residing in Texas, Mark Lobel has a master’s degree
in architecture from Tulane University. While his architectural career has spanned over
thirty years with a focus on the design of international airport terminals, he attributes
his journey as a photographer to a lifelong connection to the arts and an obsession for
observing people.
Photography has been a forty-year passion, and Mark is now achieving recognition as
an accomplished portrait photographer through his compelling images.
“A key element in my photographs is the overall composition”, Mark writes.
Painter and family friend Philip Pearlstein influenced Mark’s philosophy on photography
through discussions related to void space, texture and light.
“I feel all of these elements make a significant contribution to the story and ‘essence’ of a
subject... but we both agree none of these elements matter without a strong composition”.
