P. 15
Teddy walked out on his sturdy bear paws. He had put on his warm duf e coat with the wooden buttons on this morning, and placed Mouse safely in his inner pocket where the box tted snugly . With his backpack still full of food, the book on top and his lantern in hand, they went out together towards the big forest, to where Mouse lived with his family.
He knew he wasn’t allowed to go there. "Don't go to the big forest," he had been told all his life, "Because that's where the human children live."
Teddy was especially told never to talk to human children, and he hadn’t met a human child before. Teddy was frightened and he thought to himself,
“Maybe they like to eat bear meat or make soup from bear bones.”
Yet it didn't stop Teddy from bringing Mouse back to his family, he knew he had to help him.
After two hours of brisk walking, Mouse nally woke up. He had fallen asleep to the swaying of his box and the warm woolen cloth, but now he started to squeak weakly. ‘When did he last eat, and what does he like?’ thought Teddy.
