Ever wondered what it is like to be a student in another country? Three students from around the
world give us a look into their lives.
USA
Alexandra Ziegler studies photography at rural Montana State
University in Bozeman, Montana.
Studying: She spends 40 hours per week on homework,
classes, study and take pictures. She takes four to five classes
(which meet two or three times a week).
Cost: Studying in USA is expensive. The state university offers
cheaper tuition fees than the private. Financial aid or
scholarship is available either from the school or the
government grants.
Fun: She spends her free time hang out with her friends at
campus ministry or just go out to a movie.
The Netherland
Bastiaan Spijkman is a Financial Economics student at
Radboud University in the city of Nijmegen.
Studying: He studies around 20 – 25 hours a week but it
varies a lot per trimester. Most classes have either one or
two lectures per week. So that comes from four to eight
hours of lectures per week.
Cost: Government students’ loans are available at very
reasonable rates and repayment conditions are very lenient.
Government studies are also available depending on your
parents’ income.
Fun: He spends his time by going to bars, doing exercise,
hanging out and making dinner with friends.
Turkey
Iᶊil Defterli studies Industrial Engineering at Kadir Has
University in Istanbul.
Studying: He studies approximately 10 – 12 hours with
around 20 lectures.
Cost: I have scholarship so university is free for me.
Government gives money to students as a loan. The students
have to pay back the money when they start working.
Fun: I love hanging out with my friends inside the house or
outside. Istanbul has many option of nightlife entertainment.
You can go to clubs, casual bars, jazz bars, karaoke bars or
