Learning Objectives
At the end of this lesson, you must be able to:
1. describe the structural components of the cell membrane
and
2. relate the structure and composion of the cell membrane to its
funcon.
All living cells are encased in a delicate sheet of molecules called the
cell membrane, or plasma membrane. The cell membrane, in addion to
defining the boundary of the cell, allows the cell to interact with its
environment in a controlled way. Its general funcon is to protect the integrity
of the interior of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while
keeping other substances out.
