P. 74
Listen and circle the words you hear.
M Can you please take these aluminum cans (inside/outside) for me?
W Sure. Do you have (anything/something) else that needs to be recycled?
M No. That's it. I took the bottles out (today/yesterday).
W What about the (newspapers/paper bags)?
M Oh, I forgot about them. Can you take them out, (too/as well)?
W Sure. It's (important/imperative) to recycle things.
M Yes, it is. But (some things/sometimes) we can't recycle.
W That's true, (perhaps/maybe) someday we will be able to recycle everything.
M Mom, what do they do with old refrigerators? Do they just (throw/draw) them away?
W No, they have to dispose of them in a (special/certain) way because there are
chemicals that are (harmful/dangerous) to the environment inside them.
M Oh, really? I did not know there (are/were) chemicals inside a refrigerator.
W That is how they keep (stuff/things) cold.
M Don't the chemicals get into (our/your) food?
W No, the chemicals are inside metal tubes. But (after/when) the refrigerator is old or
disposed of, the tubes can break and (seep/leak) chemicals into the environment.
M Oh, okay.
W We have to be careful of what we throw (away/out) so we don't harm the
environment.
M Hey, Beth. What are you (done/doing)?
W I'm (putting/placing) my recyclables in the recycle bin.
M But you're (mingling/mixing) the plastic and glass bottles together?
W So, they (both/all) need to be recycled.
M You're supposed to put them in (different/separate) bins because they get recycled
in different bins.
W Oh, I didn't know (so/that).
M Just (be/make) sure that in the future you separate your recyclables.
