Listen and circle the words you hear.
M I heard this really (amazing/surprising) story at school today.
W Oh, tell me. I (like/love) listening to gossip.
M It's not (really/exactly) gossip, but more of just an interesting story.
W Well, tell me (anyways/always).
M Apparently, a family in Kansas were cleaning their basement when all of sudden a
(giant/huge) tornado came and tore their (entire/whole) house down.
W Wow, they were lucky they were (on/in) the basement.
W Oh, my! I can't believe it. You should read this (article/story) on page 8.
M Why don't you just (tell/say) it to me?
W Apparently, a 10 year old child was playing in the (drain/rain) last week and got
struck by lightning.
M Is the child (alright/okay)?
W Yes, he is fine. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him. Apparently, he
(has/was) already been struck by lightning (thrice/twice) before!
M Wow! (Hit/Struck) by lightning three times and he is so young.
W I wonder how many more times he will get struck by lightning (in/during) his life.
W Did you (read/hear) about old Mrs. Raymond next door? She was in the local
newspaper (today/yesterday).
M What for? Did she do something (strange/weird) again?
W Yes, she (claims/says) there is a ghost living in her attic. She even claims to have
pictures proving it!
M I (can't/don't) believe that.
W It could be true. Just look at (those/these) pictures they printed in the paper.
M It is (very/really) easy to fake those kinds of photos. I think she is making it up.
