Jewelry is one of the oldest forms of body adornments. Recently discovered
beads made from Nassarius shells are considered to be the oldest known jewelry

to date. They are estimated to be around 100,000 years old. While people
nowadays primarily wear jewelry for aesthetic reasons, jewelry in earlier times

             was created for function.
Early humans made use of natural materials, which were easily accessible

such as bone, teeth, stone, and pieces of animal sinew to fasten their clothing
together. Some had pieces of shells, mother-of-pearl, and mammoth tusks.

People of high importance were the ones who normally wore jewelry. It was a
means to show their status in life and in death as well. In fact, a number of

archeological expeditions have discovered jewelry in ancient burial grounds.
