Continental Army. In the South, the
British was more successful with the
occupation of Georgia and capture
of Charleston in early 1779. British
forces under the leadership of Lord
Charles Cornwallis began a series
of attacks in the South by defeating
Gate's American troops at Camden the Continental Army had replaced
in the middle of August. The South Gates with Nathanael Green as
was not a complete loss for the commander of the Southern Army in
American forces however as they still December. Under Green’s command,
managed to score a victory against General Daniel Morgan scored a
Loyalist forces at King's Mountain victory against a British force led
