It was believed that certain
locations were more
advantageous than others.
A lodestone was used by the
early Chinese fortune tellers,
and at some point somebody
noticed that the lodestone
consistently pointed to the
north and south directions.
The lodestone was then
fashioned into a device,
called the mariner’s compass.
