Using the telescope,

Galileo advanced the notion

that the Earth and

other planets orbit the sun.

However, the telescope was

still in its infancy and,

like Ptolemy, Galileo made an

erroneous assumption as well.

He assumed that the Earth’s

orbital path was circular.
