Saffron is a very interesting plant. It is very versatile and used in a variety of
ways such as a seasoning in food, in drinks, and as a perfume. It is also used for
medicinal purposes, and it is one of the oldest herbs ever used in the history of
mankind .
Around 600 B.C., Phoenicians believed saffron to be a mysterious plant that
can cure many illnesses and that can also be turned into a dye. In ancient times,
it is said that saffron was used to cure stomachaches. Cleopatra used the herb as
a cosmetic to give her skin a golden shine and as a perfume. The Europeans
were the first to use the herb as a spice. Monks in Tibet have been using saffron
in their religious ceremonies. Nowadays, saffron is also used in clinical trials as an
anti-aging herb. It is also used in other industries such as the tobacco, alcohol,
dairy, cosmetic, and dye industries.
Saffron was first originally grown in Greece, but now is more commonly found
in Southwest Asia. It is also found in China, Iran, Spain, India, New Zealand,
Tasmania, and California.
