Alimony and support
• To determine alimony and support, the income of each party must be
determined.
• Analysis of tax returns, coupled with knowledge of assets and liabilities,
can lead practitioners to suspect that income has been understated.
• Different types of alimony can be awarded.
• Insurance and other property can be used to secure payment of alimony.
• Child support payments are not deductible on tax returns because they
are not alimony.
• Amount of child support is based on factors, such as the number of
children and standard of living.
