(N’HOURANGA S. C. Brees 1849)
Today, Ngauranga, Centennial Highway (SH 1) on the way to Porirua.

“We walked six miles the next morning to breakfast at a house called the ferry house kept by a
man who surprised me very much by the conversational powers he exhibited and general
information, until I was told that he had been a clergyman and had been in New Zealand for
many years before the Company had possessions here. I mention this because it is not an
uncommon thing to find men here in various capacities who have previously lived in good
               society at home.”
