and has deemed that not doing so as a sin. The Prophet, Muhammad
p.b.u.h, said in an authentic narration (hadeeth):

مِلسم ك على ةضيرف ِملِعلا بلط

“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” (Al-
Tirmidhi)
This obligation is not limited to a certain sex or class, but rather
it is as much as an obligation upon women as it is for men, the young
and the old, and the poor and the rich. For everyone who seeks
knowledge, Allah has promised to raise the ranks and status of those
who have knowledge, and has praised them in many places in the
Quran. Allah says in Al Quran surah Al Mujadalah (58): 11:

تاجرد ملِعلا اوتوأ نيِلَّاو مكنِم اونمآ نيِلَّا للها ِعفري
“Allah raises of those who believe and those who have been
given knowledge many levels.”(Quran 58:11)
Brothers and sisters in Islam,
There is a great difference between a Muslim who has
knowledge and one who does not. The Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) described this in his saying: “The excellence of
a scholar over another (ordinary) worshipper is like the excellence of
the full moon over the rest of the heavenly bodies.” (Abu Dawood)
Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,
Why has Allah and the Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h. given such
preference to those who have knowledge to those who do not? This
is because knowledge is the basis of all good; it generates actions that
are based on the commandments of Allah and the instructions of the
