                  On the eastern edge of Newfoundland & Labrador, St. John’s is the province’s
                  capital city. Since the Europeans fi rst came here more than 500 years ago,
                  the city has been the economic, political, and cultural hub of this vibrant and
                  unique province.

                  By Air
                  There are numerous daily flights to St. John’s from Halifax, Montreal,

                  Ottawa, Toronto, and Calgary, to name a few. Among the airlines
                  serving this region are Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, and Air
                  Saint-Pierre. The airport is only a 10-minute drive from downtown St.
                  John’s. Taxi service to downtown accommodation costs approximately
                  $20.00 - $27.00 for one person, $3.00 for each additional adult.

                  By Sea
                  Marine Atlantic provides ferry service from mainland Canada via Port aux Basques
                  (year-round) and Argentia (seasonally from late June to late September). Ferries
                  leave from North Sydney, Nova Scotia. For booking information call 1.800.341.7981. For
                  hearing impaired, call 1.877.820.9252. Reservations are recommended for all ferries.
                  By Road
                  From Port aux Basques, the Trans-Canada Highway crosses the island to St.
                  John’s, a distance of 905 km (562 miles). From Argentia, the distance to St.
                  John’s is 131 km (81 miles). (The use of seat belts is mandatory in the province
                  of Newfoundland & Labrador. The use of handheld cell phones by drivers is
                  not permitted.) Numerous car rental options are available, see page 4.
                  By Bus
                  Newhook’s Transportation (709-682-4877) operates a bus service between
                  Argentia and St. John’s. DRL Bus Lines (1-888-263-1854) operates a daily bus
                  service between Port aux Basques and St. John’s. Within the city, Metrobus
                  schedules are available by calling 709-722-9400 or visiting www.metrobus.com.
