8.1.5. Garuda Grid [Bengaluru]
GARUDA (Global Access to Resource Using Distributed Architecture) is India's Grid Computing
initiative. It connects 17 cities across the country with an aim to bring “Grid” networked computing
to research labs and industry.
GARUDA is a SOA based cyber infrastructure connecting computational nodes, mass storage and
scientific instruments distributed across the country.
Grid computing technologies for operational GARUDA, covers:
• Architecture, Framework and Standards
• Middleware and Associated tools: Development, deployment and operational support
• Migration to inter operation with international Grids
• Resource aggregation and coordination with resources initiative
• Operational pilot of applications and coordination with new application initiatives.
