Archivist knot
The main functions of an archivist’s knot are to be
as flat as possible and to be easy to untie. This is the
method advocated by the Public Records Office (the
precursor to the National Archives), and if it’s good
enough for them…
1 Tie a slipped overhand knot in the end of a length of unbleached cotton
tape. An overhand loop can be used, but it is usually more bulky.
