Harness loop
Usually tied in the bight (here), the harness loop
can be tied with the end of a line too. A load needs to
be maintained on the loop, or the knot will pull out of
shape. Also known as the artillery loop, it’s thought
to have been used by soldiers for moving guns over
hilly or boggy ground.
1 Make an overhand loop in the working end, then pass the end through
the loop to make an overhand knot.
