Figure-eight loop
There’s a definite advantage in basing a knot on
an established favourite – particularly when it’s a
simple knot such as the figure-eight. If all else fails,
and you can’t see the rabbit for the trees (see
bowline,), the figure-eight loop will see you out of a
tight spot. Use it for just about everything you had a
bowline for.
1 Tie a figure-eight in the standing part. Pass the working end back
through the last loop, leaving plenty of slack behind.
