Figure-eight knot
The figure-eight knot may not be any bulkier than
the overhand, but it’s much easier to untie and
equally as strong, so is often the stopper knot of
choice for sailors. Also known as the Flemish knot, it
forms the basis of several other, more complicated
knots.
1 Put an underhand loop in the end of the line, and pass the working end
around the standing part.
