Double Matthew Walker

The double (or ‘full’) Matthew Walker used to be

the standard stopper knot aboard ship, until it was
replaced by the ‘single’ Matthew Walker, which is

somewhat neater. The double version is worth
knowing, however, if only for variety’s sake.

1 Prepare the line as before (Step 1), or tie three lengths of thin line

together with a whipping and a seizing, as shown. The same principles

apply for four strands.
