Long splice
Where it’s important that the thickness of the
rope remains constant, use the long splice. Although
it doesn’t bulk up the line as much as the short
splice, it can weaken the line considerably more – by
as much as 50 per cent, according to some.
1 Mark off each line, allowing about 40 times the diameter for the splice.
In this case, 40 × ⅜in = 16in (40 × 1cm = 40cm)
