 Study Hall Policy
Students may not be scheduled for more than ten (10) study halls per six-day cycle.
Grading Scale
Quality Point Average (QPA) and Class Rank has been eliminated from the high school transcript. Any student having a college application on which it mandates that class rank is required and will not be accepted without this information, should discuss with his/her school counselor. The QPA is derived by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of eligible credits taken at PHS. Quality points are numerical values assigned to grades. QPA is computed on both a weighted and non-weighted basis. Point values for weighted QPA are listed in the table below. Point values for non-weighted QPA are always the values listed in the Academic category, i.e., A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1,E = 0 regardless of the course level.
AP Weight Values Honor Weighted Academic Values Values
A 5.0 4.5 4.0
B 4.0 3.5 3.0
C 2.0 2.0 2.0
D 1.0 1.0 1.0

Academic Accountability – 50% PROCEDURE: All students will receive the grade they earn for any nine-week period. If a student earns below 50%, he/she will receive the grade earned. If the student earns a 60% or above in the following nine-weeks, the previous nine-weeks grade will be raised to 50% During the fourth nine-week grading period the student will receive the grade he/she earns. Mid-Term and Final Exams: All students will receive the grade they earn on mid-term exams. If a student earns below a 50%, the student may qualify to have the midterm exam grade changed to 50% by earning a 60% or higher on the final exam.
***Parents are strongly encouraged to use the electronic grade system (parent portal) to monitor their child’s progress. PHS staff will contact parents when students are experiencing academic difficulty.
Rank and Academic Merit
Class rank is calculated and is available through the School Counseling Department at the request of post-secondary institutions and scholarship organizations. Class rank will not be displayed on student transcripts. Students with a 4.0 grade point average and above will be awarded a medal for “Academic Excellence” at the time of commencement, and will lead in the roll call procession. Formal valedictorian and salutatorian standings will not be recognized, but may be merited through rank requests of post-secondary institutions and scholarship organizations.
Curriculum and Post-Secondary Planning
Ranging from workforce ready to advanced college preparatory, various levels of program planning can be created for each student. Students are encouraged to take classes that provide academic rigor to best prepare for their post-secondary aspirations. Students may enroll in classes of various levels depending on individual need, ability, and interest.
In addition to a variety of academic levels, classes are also offered with a variety of instructional delivery options, including online, off-campus, as well as on-campus. It is noted that courses taught at PHS may include a blended learning component.
