would be working on matters coming in from Nomura Securities, a cli- ent that had just generated a new deal. Bob would he handling the securities aspects of the intended transaction; I would be handling the real estate and financing aspects. He was extremely happy that I was coming back, he said, because he would be working with me. And even more so because documents were coming in on Thursday—and Nomura “needed” our comments by the end of the holiday weekend! I had told Joe that I would be away during the holiday, but Bob, whom I liked a lot, became hard of hearing when I reiterated that fact to him. Thus it was that Bob shipped a fax machine to Kathy’s parents on Martha’s Vineyard and, starting on Thursday and continuing through the entire weekend, an unending raft of papers came in, and my comments went back by return fax or call. Warren was far from thrilled that his phone line was being tied up, and I was far from thrilled that my entire weekend was blown. But, hey, that’s the price you pay to get back into familiar terri- tory. I had taken an eleven-year breather, and I was back at Rosenman.
