Welcome to the 24th Annual Summit!
Arizona has been the premier gathering place for program business professionals in October for 22 years and we’re
pleased to be back at the familiar Westin Kierland Resort for another exciting Summit. There is no better way to measure
the association’s value proposition than by the commitment our members demonstrate through their attendance, and the
24th Summit is shaping up to be another noteworthy event. TMPAA membership continues to grow and now spans 700 total
member companies, including 408 program administrators, 94 carriers, and 198 service providers with more than 1,500
individuals expected to attend the Summit.
With growth and prosperity comes change, including in the ranks of the TMPAA. The 2024 Summit is particularly special
to longstanding members as we celebrate a changing of the guard in the executive director position. Ray Scotto, who has
served our membership faithfully and tirelessly since the association’s inception, is stepping down as executive director
and transitioning into a senior executive role. Ray’s familiar, smiling face will continue to be a fixture at TMPAA events, but
his usual frenetic pace should ease along with his official duties. We are all grateful for Ray’s innumerable contributions
and wish him well in this next chapter.
We are equally excited to welcome Gene Abbey into the executive director role. Gene is a longtime industry professional and
TMPAA member/contributor and has served beside Ray for the last two years. Sarah Ayars, a 15-year veteran of the TMPAA,
shares management responsibilities with Gene as the director of operations and marketing. The association is well prepared
to continue serving our members under the leadership of Gene and Sarah. Please join me in congratulating them both.
Our members consistently tell us that the Summit is the best place to meet with decision-makers in the program industry,
so the TMPAA works hard to develop workshops and invite speakers who can compete for your valuable time. This year’s
agenda includes sessions focused on the always-hot topics of claims and litigation and artificial intelligence. Additionally,
we are pleased to welcome back Dr. Robert Hartwig from University of South Carolina, as our industry speaker. Dr. Hartwig’s
informative presentations are always well attended, and for good reason.
Joan Woodward, President of Travelers Institute, joins us as our keynote speaker. Woodward is a member of the Travelers
company’s Management Committee, Operating Committee and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Committee,
and she services on the Diversity Council and the Travelers Foundation Board. Additionally, she spent 12 years on Capitol
Hill where she was Deputy Chief of Staff for the US Senate Finance Committee working with Chairman Bill Roth, where she
was instrumental in creating the Roth IRA. You don’t want to miss Woodward’s presentation at 4:00pm on Monday.
As always, we will make use of the time in Scottsdale to continue promoting TMPAA’s philanthropic efforts, educational
offerings with the newly launched Program Business Professional (PBP) designation, and a continued push to bring young
talent into our industry through the Gamma Iota Sigma Sustaining Partner initiative. We encourage everyone to take an
active role in supporting these efforts.
It is estimated that program business will exceed $100B of written premiums in 2024. This is an incredibly exciting and
dynamic time to be in one of the fastest growing, most innovative segments of the insurance industry. We look forward to
celebrating some significant milestones for both the TMPAA and the industry, and networking with friends and colleagues
during the Summit. On behalf of the Target Markets staff, advisory board, and our valued sponsors, we welcome you and
wish you a productive and enriching meeting!
