P. 3

Dear Class of 2020,

As I write this, I am at home waiting for Governor Cuomo to once again extend school
closings. I am working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic as are all of you. Who
would have thought that anything like this would have happened in my first year as a
principal...in your graduation year! I am sure that the emotions I have gone through are nothing
compared to yours. You are all in my thoughts daily. You are missing out on so many
memories, moments and traditions. We know you will be missing out on so much, but we are
working to replace some of those things, despite knowing that we will never be able to do
          enough.

I have seen all over social media that the Class of 2020 was born in the shadows of 9/11 and are
now graduating during this pandemic. You have grown up in an ever changing world and
because of that, I believe that you will change the world! As you leave high school, you enter a
world that is waiting for you. Every single one of you will leave LPHS and make your mark on
the world. How you do it, is of course, up to you. Think about the world that you grew up in.
Think about how life has changed during quarantine. What would you keep from your world
before? What would you keep from your time in quarantine? Every moment in your life has
mattered and helped to shape who you are. This time is no different.

I encourage you to find meaning. Meaning in whatever you choose to do. In one of my favorite
TED talks, Angela Duckworth states, “If you don’t know what you want to do with the rest of
your life, you’re not a failure. Give yourself time and get yourself experience to figure things
out.” My hope for all of you is that you search for what makes you happy and that you embrace
all of the moments this world gives you. Each one of them matters and each one of them will
give you an opportunity to find your place in this world.

Good luck, take care, and remember to come back and visit us! We will miss you all.

          Mrs. Tammy Casey
High School Principal, Lake Placid Central School
