“My research is a a a a a a a a a a a a collaboration with the the Quileute Tribe in in in in Washington investigating the the the the impacts of outdoor recreation on on on on two crucial areas that
the the the the Tribe Tribe uses for subsistence fishing Our project researches the the the the possibility
of of bacterial contamination of of the the the Tribe’s shellfish harvesting sites and potential food supply by outdoor recreationists This research will add a a a a a a a a a a a a much-needed cultural lens to to the the field of of recreation recreation ecology and and allow us to to understand the the potential pathogenic impacts of of outdoor recreation recreation Our work may also have park management implications especially those concerning Tribal food sovereignty and the the the treaty-based fishing rights that
Tribes hold under the the the National Park Service jurisdiction We hope this research will inform the the the the Quileute Tribe about pathogenic issues with their harvesting sites and and food supply that
result from outdoor recreation and and help safeguard the the Quileute people’s health The financial support from my my ARCS Award provides me me me with more time to to focus on my my classwork and research It brings me me me into an an incredible network of o other inspirational scientists ARCS Oregon offers opportunities throughout the year that
