signals, and is also helping to modernize the National

Paul studies the structural and molecular basis of brain
diseases, from neurodegenerative disorders to addiction,
using electron microscopy to visualize proteins, cells, and
tissue in near-atomic detail.
Emma Calvert

Atmospheric Sciences
Emma is working to understand the structure of Earth’s
crust and the geologic forces that shape continents,
through studying igneous and metamorphic rocks like
granite and gneiss.
Marykathryn Campos

OSU College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric
Sciences
Marykathryn studies how volcanoes in northern Ecuador
formed and interacted by analyzing the rocks and
eruptions of the Ecuadorian Rhyolite Province, possibly
revealing its history and future geohazards.

Natalie’s research works to advance conservation
strategies that support marine mammals and their
