 November Report 2022
Endowment program meeting report (2)
Rick pointed out that as he was doing his analysis, he noted differences in reported asset growth (or losses). Some of this may be related to the time frames from the reports, but in some cases, there is substantial variance from other endowments. The Johnson Scholarship Foundation does not want to give any instructions on how endowments are managed, but this meeting did seem like a good place for sharing. Many in the room noted the use of an outside management firm, and almost everyone expressed that an internal oversight committee is part of their structure. Most have an investment policy. Several names of investment management firms were shared within the room. Rick said that there are firms that specialize in asset management for Native organizations. Rick also shared that NACUBO (National Association of College and University Business Officers) does reports on higher education endowment performance.

POST MEETING SURVEY SUMMARY
A survey was sent to representatives who attended the meeting for Endowment institutions. The majority of respondents gave high ratings to the explanation of reporting requirements; the discussion about compliance with grant agreements; and the conversation about graduate data. Also, 100% responded that they believed that a meeting of endowment institutions should be held annually. One person commented that “we could lessen the frequency once we are all in the groove.”
