PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
SIPI awarded 24 scholarships for the fall. Eight of the students were full-time, and 16 students were part- time. They noted that one of the students never cashed the scholarship check last year. We talked about what had happened when only 3 or 4 scholarships were awarded in the Fall of 2021. They explained that they had a significant decline in enrollment and had only a very few applicants. Only one dorm operates, and they have NO out-of-state students on campus. That dorm can house 100 students. They currently have 284 students enrolled, and the registration is below the college’s capacity. This fall, 50% of the students are taking classes online.
They have a new president, but he was attending the AIHEC conference. Last year, when we were there, we met with the acting president.
The limited number of students on campus has disrupted the routine of extracurricular activities. The AIBL program is not operating, and they plan to reach out to the University of New Mexico to see if interested students can participate in that program.
DESK AUDIT
The files were disorganized and had duplicate files. There were old files that had no relevance to our site visit. I could not discern whether or not they were in compliance. Before our next site visit, I recommend that we give them explicit instructions about the files. We did not get a letter of financial eligibility from SIPI. We need to monitor this school closely. They only awarded eight full-time students this fall. I recommend closely reviewing the upcoming December report to ensure they follow our policies.
