PROGRAM UPDATES
The La Courte Oreilles Ojibway University (LCOOU) is now officially a university. The new name and logo were introduced last month. Their accreditation classification changed when they added two master’s degree programs, both of which have been accredited. They are now accredited to offer a master’s degree in business management and business science. Six students are enrolled in the fall semester business management program, nine are enrolled in the business science program, and 2 are former JSF scholars.
40TH ANNIVERSARY
They are planning to celebrate their 40th anniversary next week.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
They have not publicly announced their capital campaign but disclosed that they plan to raise $275 million for a new campus and other upgrades. They have hired a fundraising consultant, and she provided a review of the proposed plan. They proposed raising $10 million for endowed scholarships in the fundraising plan. I suggested they submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) to the Johnson Scholarship Foundation when they had definitive plans regarding the scholarship endowment.
VISIT WITH SCHOLARS
LCOOU had three students attend the meeting. All of them expressed their gratitude to JSF for the support. All three were females and were single parents. One had just graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and was in the business management master’s program. All of them participate in the American Indian Business Leaders program.
GRADUATES
LCOOU had five graduates this past spring. Two received AA degrees, and three received their BAs in business. All of them have remained on their respective reservations.
LCOOU serves the La Courte Oreilles Ojibway reservation and three other sites; the Bad River Reservation, the Red Cliff reservation, and the Lac Du Flambeau reservation.
LCOOU has 70 students majoring in business. LCOOU reported that they have 27 students in the BA program, 19 in the AA program, and 23 in the accounting program. LCOOU’s enrollment has been steady, with 300 students enrolled this fall.
AUDIT
I reviewed all of the files for the students, and there were no issues.
