PROGRAM NOTES AND END NOTES
• Florida Atlantic University
FAU reported on the program JSF helped to grow their First Generation Office. (See report attached.)
• Landmark College
Bobby, King and Lady met with administrators at Landmark to get an update on the college’s Dual Enrollment program. Landmark College is in Year 3 of a 5-year matching grant. (See report attached.)
• University of Florida
Bea and Caleb represented the Foundation at the MFOS graduation reception. (See report attached.)

Thomas A. Pence, Jr.
We are pleased to welcome Tommy to the JSF staff as the new Financial Controller. Tommy brings over 30 years of accounting experience. Dick will be training him in the coming months.
Lowell Weiss
We have hired Seattle-based consultant Lowell Weiss to help us plan and execute our December board retreat. We’ve enjoyed getting to know Lowell over the past few months. We think you’ll find that he not only has the right skillsets but also is a good cultural and values fit for JSF. After working as a journalist for The Atlantic Monthly and as a speechwriter for President Clinton, he transitioned into the foundation world in 2001. He has served in leadership roles for two foundations (Gates Foundation and Venture Philanthropy Partners) and supported dozens of other global, national, and regional foundations as a consultant. He loves working with boards likes ours, especially in cases when he gets an opportunity to speak with and learn from directors in advance of key meetings. To that end, we’ve asked him to join us to observe our meeting in Chicago. He will also be reaching out to schedule a 60-minute individual
meeting for sometime this summer.
September Board and Committee meetings
These meetings will be held September 10th through 12th in Chicago. We will be staying at the Renaissance Hotel, 1 West Upper Wacker Drive. We are planning to visit Providence St. Mel School on Monday morning. Please complete the attached reservations sheet and return it so that we have the correct numbers for our arrangements with the hotel.
