JSF CEO Bobby Krause with Johnson Scholars Maggie Helgren and William Hunt.
Maggie had prepared a gracious thank you letter addressed to JSF, attached to this report. She read it aloud. It was heartfelt and emotional as she recounted the circumstances of her life leading up to the opportunity to attend Robeson and the news that she would receive a scholarship from JSF. Maggie is a member of the Lumbee Tribe and a US veteran.
William is also a member of the Lumbee Tribe. He was more restrained in his comments, but no less appreciative. For William, the scholarship served as confirmation that pursuing an education at Robeson was possible. He is an entrepreneur who owns a business selling athletic jerseys.
A desk audit of the JSF scholarship program found the administration of the program to be in order and compliance with JSF policy. The active scholarships for the 2023/24 school year include 4 returning JSF scholars and 5 new JSF scholarship recipients. The program has distributed $37k during the 2023/24 school year.
The site visit concluded with a site visit of the campus.
