Boys Hope Girls Hope of Cincinnati is already seeing several positive benefits from adding an Academy pathway. “Residential scholars have expressed their love for programming involving all scholars and report the events are better, and they also enjoy meeting kids from other schools,” says Program Director Ming-Toy Cardwell. “We can assist more needy families and make a more significant impact with the Academy model. The staff is delighted to see full houses and hear laughter once again.”
Baltimore, too, is experiencing the upshot of this expansion. “In Baltimore, we are seeing the positive impact the new Academy has had on our overall programming,” says Arlene Hackbarth, Executive Director of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Baltimore. “The increased number of scholars not only allows us to reach more young people, but has also resulted in more robust programming. New friendships are being formed, and we are seeing scholars helping each other with their studies.”
MY ROAD
Another crucial part of Boys Hope Girls Hope’s Strategic Plan is to unify core programming across all affiliates. This
will ensure that all scholars, regardless of their location, can access the same quality programming. The key framework for achieving this goal is the upgrade and re-launch of My Road, Boys Hope Girls Hope’s signature curriculum purpose-built to serve scholars across the Network and delivered through an online platform.
My Road consists of lessons, activities, reflections, assessments, and benchmarks that ensure scholars are developing academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually in preparation for college and life beyond.
“In addition to dynamic, high-quality programming, the most exciting component of My Road is the opportunity for scholars to connect with peers across the Network,” says Erin Beezley, director of experiential learning & youth development. “Peer relationships are powerful, and we are excited to see the positive impact of peer-to-peer connection and community in program participation.”
All My Road lessons are backed by applied positive youth development research and proven methods of building their 6 C’s: competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution.
FUNDRAISING
Achieving the goals set forth above will take funds. Boys Hope Girls Hope has embarked on an ambitious fundraising campaign that aims to raise $25 million by 2027, when the organization turns 50.
THE CAMPAIGN IS FOCUSED ON FOUR TARGETS:
1) Matching grants to fuel growth in existing cities
2) Scholarships and post-secondary support
3) Increased capacity at Network Headquarters to serve a larger organization
4) EndowmentgrowthtosecureBoysHopeGirlsHope’s work for years to come
