Groves Learning Organization action item update (2)
As reflected in the graphic below, while the average award is $19,791, the actual amount awarded varies by household income. Tuition assistance packages range from $2,000 to the full cost of tuition, plus any additional fees related to enrollment or participation in Academy activities.
For the 2024–2025 school year, Groves Academy awarded a total of $1.9 million in tuition assistance. Looking ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, the aid budget is set at $2.1 million. This total budget is determined based on the school’s overall enrollment goals. Groves Academy, and the independent schools’ network, follows a net-tuition revenue model and collaborates annually with the CFO, VP of Advancement, and Admissions team to set enrollment targets and establish the tuition assistance budget.
Over the past several years, the numbers of scholarships by income bracket have been relatively stable. There has been more growth in students receiving aid from the $0-$59K income bracket. They attribute this to improved targeted outreach and are pleased to extend increased support to more families in lower income brackets. The middle-income bracket has remained very stable. In the higher income brackets, upper school families are applying more now than they have in the past.
Over the last decade, their tuition assistance process has remained consistent as it relates to calculating the tuition assistance budget relative to total student enrollment. However, the methodology toward how tuition assistance is distributed is more data-driven and focuses on impact on individual families and the broader school community.
This meeting highlighted GLO’s thoughtful and responsive approach to feedback as reflected in the addition of the “Family Scenarios” section of their website. The discussion provided a clearer picture of the Academy’s commitment to needs-based tuition assistance and how each tuition assistance package is tailored to each family’s unique financial situations. GLO’s long-term goal is to provide 100% tuition assistance to families. They recognize that their partnership with JSF is a unique and valuable opportunity within the independent school landscape. To support their vision, GLO is actively working to grow its endowment, advance their capital campaign, and has recently created a new position dedicated to planned giving.
