11. Upcoming meetings
▶ Fall 2025 – Sunday, September 7th – Anchorage, Alaska
Bobby explained that, due to the travel distance for most, it is anticipated that everyone plan to arrive in Anchorage by Friday, September 5th. An optional site visit is being planned for Saturday afternoon to Alaska Pacific University. The Grant Program Committee will meet on Sunday, with a group dinner that night. Monday morning will be a site visit to the Alaskan Native Science and Engineering Program at the University of Alaska, followed by Committee meetings and the JSF family dinner. The Board meeting will be Tuesday morning. Again because of travel, it is anticipated most people will depart on Wednesday. Lisa presented a new Microsoft Forms survey that she encouraged everyone to complete to facilitate planning, especially regarding the hotel.
▶ Winter 2025 – Saturday, December 6th – Palm Beach, Florida
Bobby proposed changing the large group dinner for the December meeting to Saturday night instead of Friday night. He explained that this would help alleviate some of the pressure to arrive early on Friday. There would be no group Friday night dinner plans.
The Committee unanimously agreed to this change in schedule.
▶ Spring 2026 – Sunday, March 15th
Atlanta, Georgia is the recommended location. The plan would be to visit The Bedford School which is outside of Atlanta. The Committee unanimously affirmed this recommendation.
12. Budget Items
a. 2025 Grant Distribution Plan and 5-year projections
The 2025 Grant Distribution Plan had been circulated. The grant approvals from this meeting were shown in red. The Plan also includes funding to Northwest Indian College for both the 2024 endowment grant and anticipating their meeting the matching requirement for the 2025 funding. Other items in red are estimates.
Tommy pointed out that there is just shy of $1 million available for 2025 grants, but that amount increases significantly in the following years.
The amount shown for scholarships for the children of UPS employees is probably close to what will be granted. He noted that last year, Scholarship America had funds in reserve that were added to the $805,000 the Foundation funded.
Question was raised on whether or not to budget for potential Government Actions Impact grants. It was pointed out that if the Foundation can grant in excess of the required minimum distribution. If that were the case, the excess would be carried over to 2026.
The Committee approved the 2025 Grant Distribution Plan and the 5-Year Projections as presented.
