When asked what the background of humor is, a thoughtful response would be to qualify a thing as humorous if it effectively showcases a divorce between expectation and reality. Humor and comedy thrive on novelty
by offering fresh perspectives on the mundane and challenging the way things are. Unsurprisingly, it has been thoroughly employed to offer fearless commentaries on orthodoxies. Progress is afoot partly because someone dared to laugh and think.
Humor in itself is a form of rebellion against the monotony of existence, laughing its way through the absurd. For 33 years UP SAMASKOM helped us trump our own battles by enjoining
us into laughter, a momentary release from the burden of daily dread, and had created an institution out of it. LIVE A.I.D.S. is not just
a variety show with (literally) breathtaking production and spiels, but is also a celebration

of the art which evolved and endured through time. Prepared in carefully though-of segments under an overarching theme, LIVE A.I.D.S. is not one for cheap laughs made at the expense of a stereotype comedic trope. It is loud and lively in the classic boudeville tradition, but at times is stern and poignant in its resistance and exposition. Laugh, enjoy, move, resist.
