Researchers across disciplines step up to advance COVID-19 research

TREAT An international research team led by
Dr. Eleanor Fish showed that the antiviral drug
interferon-alpha2b can help speed up recovery from
COVID-19. The drug accelerates viral clearance by
about seven days on average and reduces the blood
levels of two proteins associated with inflammation.

to determine the prevalence of asymptomatic
COVID-19 infection among health care workers at

PREDICT Dr. Shaf Keshavjee is leading a study
to predict early lung injury in COVID-19 patients
at risk for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, a
potentially fatal condition associated with severe
lung inflammation. The study team will use a rapid
diagnostic device to analyze plasma samples.
