Operational procedures
- Carburetor icing
- Mixture too lean
- Leaks
- Lack of draining of condensate in tanks and filters
In addition, oil leaks, ignition problems, and regular engine failures may require
the implementation of emergency procedures.
Since the time to assess the cause of the problem is short, there are established
procedures that you should learn by heart. They solve most problems.
The options available from the cockpit are:
- Mixture
- Carburetor heat
- Magnets and primer
- Fuel selector
- Cabin heat (close in case of engine fire so it does not spread to the cockpit)
- Cabin air (close it during cockpit fire to stop the oxygen supply, and when
using a halon extinguisher, ensure that the halon is not blown away by air)
The reaction pattern in an emergency situation is:
1. Stay calm and fly the plane!
2. Raise the nose to maintain altitude at the expense of speed.
3. Best glide speed and find emergency landing field.
4. Use emergency engine restart procedures.
Learn the emergency checklist by heart!
