Aircraft general knowledge

Carburetor ice is detected when the engine speed drops, and the aircraft does

not maintain the altitude to which it has been trimmed. If this is detected, you

should not just give more throttle but check for ice by using carb heat.

                The diagram here

                shows the

                conditions under

                which carburetor ice

                forms.

                8.9.3 Carburetor heat

We have a third control lever that ensures that hot air is supplied to the

carburetor preheating, so that we have the option of supplying hot air to the

carburetor to counteract or remove ice.

                Here you can see the

                principle of carburetor

                preheating.

                Normally, there is air intake

                through the air filter.
