Navigation
You can now choose to follow the direction to the beacon, or you can take a
bearing from another beacon and then make a cross bearing (you will learn
about this later).
So, we have:
MH + RB = MB
Magnetic heading + relative bearing = Magnetic bearing
Task:
o
The pilot receives a QDR of 225 from the VDF station.
Where is the plane in relation to the VDF station?
Solution:
When the pilot receives a QDR from a VDF station, it means that he is in a
o
magnetic direction of 225 from the station.
He must therefore be southwest of the station.
Task:

o
The following is given: QDR = 022 , variation = 10 E
What is QTE (true bearing from the station)?
Solution:
QDR is the magnetic direction the aircraft is in relative to a radio beacon.
We need to find the true direction from the radio beacon to the aircraft (QTE).

When the variation is 10 E, MN is 10 to the right of TN and the 10 must
therefore be added to ODR.
QTE = 22+10 = 32 o
