Navigation
o
If the pointer is on FROM (FR), he must therefore steer 6 to the right, i.e. he
must follow the needle.
o
If the pointer is on TO, he must of course still steer 6 to the right.
That is, he must fly opposite the needle (which is to the left of the aircraft). He
can also switch to FROM on the OBS button.
The aircraft on the right is on course 260 heading towards the VOR. The pilot in
this aircraft must therefore follow the pointer needle when the pointer is on TO
and fly opposite when the pointer is on FROM.
Well, the TO/FROM indicator does not change automatically when you turn the
aircraft.
NO!! The TO/FROM indicator changes automatically according to the figure
below.
The VOR shows the same position regardless of the aircraft's heading!
Where are we now?
- The heading gyro shows course 345 o
- The VOR instrument shows 165
- The indicator shows FROM
- There is no fluctuation on the
indicator needle
So we are on Radial 165, and we have passed the VOR station, as it is FROM.
Task:
Look at the illustration.
Where is the aircraft in relation to the VOR station?
Solution:
The VOR indicator shows that the aircraft is 210 degrees to the VOR station.
