Meteorology

Advection inversion occurs when cool air blows in over an area, and warmer

air comes to lie over it.

In situations where warm air lies over cooler air, turbulence will form in the

warm air in connection with cloud formation.

Aircraft moving through the warm air layer will experience reduced

performance during the passage of the layer.

                3.3.4.5 Inversions stabilize the weather

In connection with fronts where warm air lies over cold air, inversions also

                form.

                Inversions have a

                stabilizing effect on

                the air.

                The inversion stops

                rising air in a barrier

                layer.

                This also means that

                pollution cannot rise

                into the atmosphere.

In connection with inversions there will often be haze, fog or clouds. There will

                be Wind shear / turbulence.

Occurs most frequently in cold months and at night in the summer months.
