Principles of flight

               5.11.1.2 The bank method

With the bank method, you already

level the aircraft's nose in the

direction of the runway on final.

To prevent the aircraft from drifting

off the centerline, you have to bank

               into the wind.

The two methods can be combined.

5.11.1.3 Crosswind component / demonstrated crosswind

In the aircraft manual, you can see either the max. permissible crosswind

component, or something the factory calls the max. demonstrated crosswind.

A max. permissible crosswind component must not be exceeded.

A max. demonstrated crosswind component means that the factory test pilot

has landed the aircraft at a specific crosswind component. It is then up to the

pilot to judge whether he can do the same. The last formulation comes from the

strict product liability requirements in the USA.

               5.11.2 Taxiing on the ground

When taxiing the airplane in strong winds, you must be very careful. A good rule

of thumb is that if the wind is too strong for you to taxi, it is also too strong for

flying. If you still want to taxi the aircraft, and if it is a very sensitive aircraft, you

must have a couple of helpers hold each wingtip.

There are very specific rudder positions that must be used, depending on the

               direction of wind.
