Meteorology
The purpose is to create a shared understanding of weather-related or delayed
conditions that may affect flight safety.
The Global Reporting Format is primarily used to describe runway conditions
(e.g., ice, snow, water
on the runway) and
weather conditions,
allowing pilots and air
traffic controllers to
quickly obtain precise
information about the
actual conditions at a
given airport.
Below is how the runway is assessed in the GRF format:
Pilots are informed
of the RCR content
through SNOWTAM
or, in summer
conditions with
STANDING WATER,
via a NOTAM and
directly from the
ATS unit, including
ATIS.
