VOLUNTARY MEMBERSHIP
While you are on vacation, we strongly encourage you to become a VOLUNTARY MEMBER and pay your social
contributions for Social Security System (SSS), PHILHEALTH and PAGIBIG / HDMF at any of the branches or accredited
payment centers near you.
Why do we encouraged you to become voluntary member while on shore?
For SSS: You need to have 120 contributions to qualify for the monthly pension when you file
for your retirement.
If monthly contributions paid is less than 120 contributions, SSS will just refund you the total
paid contributions in lump sum with computed interest but you will not be entitled to monthly
pension.
For Philhealth: You need nine (9) contributions within the 12 calendar months from the date of
confinement / hospitalization to be able for you or your qualified dependent’s to avail the
hospitalization / medical benefit. If there is lacking payment or insufficient contribution, then you
will not be able to avail any benefits. This happens frequently to crew who did not pay voluntary
membership while waiting for their next contract.
In addition, if you have children beyond 21 years old, please encourage them to pay voluntarily NOTE: Magsaysay is only responsible
for their medical coverage as they are no longer qualified to be your dependents. The premium for remitting crew/principal
amount is very minimal yet a big help during confinement/hospitalization. share to SSS/Philhealth/HDMF
while crew is ON-BOARD.
For HDMF / PAGIBIG: Continuous monthly paid savings premium means higher savings
redeemable upon reaching your retirement age. It’s a one-time payment only.
