THE INSPIRATION FOR THE LYRIC
ne night in the back seat of my car (The only place
OI had to be alone) I was singing worship songs and
trying to pray but I was just so perplexed and distraught.
Nothing was easing my grief.
I felt hopeless and defeated. I was utterly deflated. My
heart was brought low and I struggled to sing a single
word or feel anything. I started reading my bible and
singing through the words. And there it was right there
staring up at me from the pages. The encouragement I
needed to keep going was so simple.
The one thing that was breaking me so much was the one
thing I wasn’t trusting God with. I was holding it all inside
as if I had no helper, no solution, no hope. Right there,
reading the bible and spontaneously singing the words to
a new melody, hope sprouted up in my heart from a seed
that had always been there.
“Bring it to me. You don’t understand my heart. I long to
help you. No one who seeks leaves empty-handed,” I kept
singing over and over.
This song was written from a place of desperation and
pain. It is my most prized gift to humanity because it
cost me something to write it and cost me something to
produce it. It is my deep desire that everyone who hears it
hopes again.
